  BREAKING: ODIEC Announces New Date For Local Government Election           Aug 29, 2024 BY OLUMIDE ABUDU  The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC says it will now conduct elections in the 18 local government areas and 203 wards of the state on January 18, 2025. ODIEC Chairman, Dr. Joseph Aremo, announced the rescheduling of council polls during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Commission’s headquarters in Akure, the state capital. The commission had postponed indefinitely the elections for the 18 council areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs which were earlier rescheduled to take place on July 13 this year. According to Dr. Aremo, the election was never canceled but rescheduled due to the non-compliance of political parties with the electoral guidelines and processes.   BREAKING: NCC announces final deadline for NIN-SIM linkag Aug 28, 2024 The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has directed all Mobile Network Operators, MNOs, to complete the mandatory verification and linkage of Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to National Identity Numbers (NINs) by September 14, 2024. The NCC, on Wednesday, gave an update on the Federal Government’s 2020 policy to link all NINs to SIMs. The Commission said that to date, over 153 million SIMs have been successfully linked to a NIN, reflecting a compliance rate of 96 per cent, a substantial increase from 69.7 per cent in January 2024. A statement signed by Reuben Muoka, Director, Public Affairs, the Commission said as the country approaches the final phase of the process, it seeks the continued cooperation of all Nigerians to achieve 100 per cent compliance. “The complete linkage of all SIM cards to NINs is essential for enhancing the trust and security of our digital economy,” it added. “By verifyi...
