Following an official visit to the Jordan Bridge in Oke Odunwo, Ondo State, on Sunday, 15th September 2024, led by Prince Hon. Oriade Wellington Adebawo alongside the Ondo State Progressive Activators (OSPA), it has been brought to attention that the structural integrity of the bridge is critically compromised.



The inspection revealed that the bridge is in poor condition and poses significant risks to public safety. Immediate action is required, including the installation of caution tapes to warn residents and commuters of the dangers. With the onset of the rainy season, the risk of flooding and potential accidents will be exacerbated if the bridge remains in its current state.



The Special Assistant on Emergency Response has promptly notified the Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Takuro, of the situation. The Commissioner has assured that necessary interventions will be taken to address the issue without delay.



Furthermore, the root cause of the problem appears to be a blocked drainage system, which prevents the river from flowing properly. Local residents have voiced concerns and suggested that the only lasting solution is to reconstruct the bridge to accommodate the natural flow of the river. Despite discussions among the residents about organizing protests to halt any temporary reopening of the bridge, Prince Oriade has appealed for calm, urging them to allow the drainage clearing works to proceed as a preliminary step.



The reconstruction of the Jordan Bridge is an urgent matter that requires immediate attention to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of the community.
