AYETORO SEA INCURSION: Hon. (Prince) Wellington Adebawo Appeals to UN, IOM, UNICEF, Red Cross for Humanitarian Intervention.

A delegation of the Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Oriade Wellington Adebawo alongside the delegation of Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), the United Nations (UN), the International Organisation on Migration (IOM), and the Nigerian Red Cross visited Ayetoro community yesterday, Tuesday, November 3. The visit was aimed at assessing the extent of the damage caused by the ocean surges that have continued to ravage the community.

Ayetoro, a coastal community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been facing numerous challenges, including poverty, lack of infrastructure, and environmental degradation. The community's residents are now living in fear of the next surge, which could wipe out what's left of their homes and livelihoods.

The delegation's visit to Ayetoro community was aimed at addressing the community's plight. The Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response who was represented by members of his team, saw firsthand the devastation caused by the ocean surges and the impact it has had on the community's residents.

During their visit, the delegation met with community leaders and residents, who pleaded with them to help save their community from the ravages of the ocean. The community leaders explained that the surges have destroyed their homes, schools, and healthcare facilities, leaving them without access to basic necessities like food, shelter, and healthcare.

The Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response assured the community leaders and residents that the state government is committed to finding a lasting solution to the challenges they face. He explained that the delegation's visit was a fact-finding mission aimed at assessing the extent of the damage caused by the ocean surges and identifying areas where the state government can intervene.

The community's residents are hopeful that the visit will mark the beginning of a new era of support and intervention from the state government.

As the state government begins to implement measures to address the challenges facing Ayetoro community, it is essential that the international community also plays a role in supporting the community's recovery efforts. Organizations like the United Nations and the International Organisation on Migration can provide critical humanitarian assistance, including emergency shelter, food, and healthcare.

The Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA) has also been working tirelessly to provide support to the affected community. The agency has been coordinating relief efforts and providing assistance to those affected by the ocean surges.
